Lucienne Rickard
Fall Guy
6 to 22 June 2019

Discarding her recent mark making tool - the hammer, Rickard uses her own finger as an extension of the hammers gesture, creating stunning and obsessive portraits and rodeo scenes.

Flesh, to ink, to paper – these rodeo scenes depict a serene weightlessness, observing the surrender between the push of a beast and the inevitable pull of the fall.

Rickard, who historically has been inspired by the writing of Cormac McCarthy and Ernest Hemingway, continues to create imagery that is unrelenting in its duality. Grace and brutality, conflict and submission, reverence and subversion – any passiveness of a conventional penstroke has been abandoned.
