Dr. Sally Rees (b. 1970, Burnie TAS) is an artist based in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia who works across both time-based and static forms.

Often blending autobiography and pop cultural influence with a surrealist automatism, her works position recording devices such as cameras and microphones as witnesses to uncanny human experience - augmenting these records with hand-wrought intervention to produce layered works that aspire to a kind of truth, clairvoyance or magick.

Rees is motivated to explore similarities between modes of clinical psychology, occult practice, meditation and protest and endorses the idea of the art object as sigil (a magickally charged symbol).  She is driven to find ritual in secular life and meaning in seemingly random conjunctions.

In 2019 Rees was announced as one of the three Australian artists to be selected for Suspended Moment:The Katthy Cavaliere Fellowship, which will culminate in a solo exhibition at MONA in 2021.

Rees has held residencies at the Western Front in Vancouver, the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris and CESTA in the Czech Republic. Her work is held in private and public collections around Australia.
